Riding 2 Wheels with Ian Falloon
Ian Falloon has authored nine books for Veloce, with four more in the pipeline. Eight of these titles cover Ducati, with the rest focusing mostly on Italian motorcycles, but he has an interest in all makes. We sat down with Ian to hear a bit about his journey and his love of 2 wheels.

My first motorcycle was a 1973 Ducati 750 GT. Back in those days in New Zealand, there were no restrictions on the type of motorcycle a learner could ride. It was like a baptism of fire - I crashed it more times than I can remember, but fortunately I survived.

Although I loved the 750 GT, all my friends had British bikes and I always yearned for a Norton Commando. So I bought a 750 Combat in 1974, but had a real love/hate relationship with this bike.
Dear ASD,

Car collectors can be a lot like fishermen. They have some pretty tall tales to tell. The thing is, unbelievable as they may sometimes seem, car collector stories are usually true.

The latest Motorbooks release, Strange but True Tales of Car Collecting, recounts the wildest car-collecting stories of all time, focusing on tales of the most eccentric and over-the-top collectors and collections.
Strange But True Tales of Car Collecting
Keith Martin and the staff of Sports Car Market Magazine have tracked down some wild stories for this great read.

Have you heard about the fellow who squirrelled away dozens of Chevelles, Camaros, and other classic muscle cars in semi trailers? How about the president of Shakespeare fishing rods who in the 1960s sold 30 now-priceless Bugattis for a mere $85,000? The English nobleman who cut up and buried his Ferrari horde in an elaborate insurance scam? Or how about the Duesenberg abandoned in a Manhattan parking garage for decades and uncovered by Tonight Show host Jay Leno?

These are just a few of the amazing stories told in this entertaining book, a must-have title for any car enthusiast. Both car collectors and fans of outrageous classic car, muscle car, and sports car stories will find entertainment in these tales of collectors who've gone off the rails.

Mustang
Fifty years is a long time. Just ask someone who has been around that long - or longer, as the case may be. In my case, I've been around just long enough to witness the Mustang's entire 50-year history, a background that came in handy when compiling and writing Mustang: 50 Years, Ford's officially-licensed book that will be available in the fall of 2013.

I was an impressionable, car-crazy 11 year-old when the first Mustang commercials appeared on network TV on April 16, 1964. Unaware that this new car from Ford was little more than a Falcon make-over, I admired the sporty looks and bucket seats with floor shifter. As I grew older, I matured right along with the Mustang, which evolved into a full-blown musclecar. For my first car, I wanted a Boss 302 or a Shelby; I had to settle for a plain-Jane '70 fastback.

Dirt bike riding

At MotoVentures Dirt First Motorcycle Riding Training in Southern California, we teach many kids how to ride throughout the year, but especially during the summer months when they are out of school. That is why our book;  How to Ride Off-Road Motorcycles was written with kids in mind too. The kids we get at our riding schools vary widely from four year olds who just took off their bicycle training wheels to 17 year olds getting ready to drive a car.  For parents thinking about getting their kids into dirt bike riding, there are many great benefits, some of which might surprise you.

Goats Out to Pasture
We've all scooped up the local paper and hastily flipped to the Auto Classifieds section with dreams of discovering the next lost collector car. Our eyes scroll through the alphabetized auto manufacturers looking for key terms and numbers like, 1970 or Nash. Words and numbers that correlate with collector cars quickly jump off the paper. It's the same instincts we possess when were driving down the interstate and somehow magically your head always turns when a shape or color passes by -  and sure enough it was a collector car. Well that's what my eyes did one day back in 2004 when I read a description in The Peach that said, "For Sale: GTO's and Judges".
Dear ASD,

Are you looking to upgrade your car's engine to increase horsepower? Understand computer-assisted engine control? Evaluate and troubleshoot OEM and aftermarket systems?

You'll likely be able to find information on how to accomplish those tasks. But it might take you several sources to find what you want. And it might be out of date.

We're here to help. Motorbooks Workshop's latest release, How to Tune and Modify Automotive Engine Management Systems: All New Edition, will tell you all you need to know to make your engine the best it can be.

Understanding fuel injection and engine management systems is the key to extracting higher performance from today's automobiles in a safe, reliable, and driveable fashion.

Turbochargers, superchargers, nitrous oxide, high compression ratios, radical camshafts: all are known to make horsepower, but without proper understanding and control of fuel injection and other electronic engine management systems, these popular power-adders will never live up to their potential and, at worst, can cause expensive engine damage.

Drawing on a wealth of knowledge and experience and a background of more than 1,000 magazine articles on the subject, engine-control expert Jeff Hartman explains everything from the basics of fuel injection to the building of complex project cars. Hartman covers the latest developments in fuel-injection and engine management technology applied by both foreign and domestic manufacturers, including popular aftermarket systems.

No other book in the market covers the subject of engine management systems from as many angles and as comprehensively as this book.
