The Story Behind the New SRT Viper

The Story Behind the New SRT Viper
There's a new performance car on the street. And its performance is insane.
  • Zero to 60 mph is somewhere in the low 3 seconds
  • Quarter mile time is low 11's.
  • It can go from 0 to 100 mph in less than 12 seconds
  • It only needs 106 feet to go from 60 to 0.
Want to know more? Motorbooks had rare behind-the-scenes access to the design and production of the all-new SRT Viper. And now we're telling the story in SRT Viper: America's Supercar Returns. Author Maurice Q. Liang was there through the entire process and shares the whole story of how this car came to be: the inside stories, the proposed possibilities, the pictures of what worked (and what didn't).
SRT Viper
With its ground-shaking V-10 American muscle and chassis with European sports car handling, the original Dodge Viper put America on the world's supercar map when it debuted in 1992. After 18 years of dominating its supercar rivals on the streets and on the world's race courses, Dodge retired the Viper in 2010. But you can't keep this snake in the basket.

In addition to telling the story of the newest model, SRT Viper: America's Supercar Returns explores the car's full history, including the roles Bob Lutz and Carroll Shelby played in the original Viper's development and recounts the Viper's wins at such hallowed tracks as Le Mans and Daytona. It's the full story of how one of the most amazing "halo" cars ever created has become an automotive legend.

Take a look at Chrysler's video on the car's exterior design. Then be sure to pick up SRT Viper: America's Supercar Returns, the ultimate resource on Chrysler's ultimate performance car, to get the rest of the story.

Camaro: The Car that Winked

The Camaro Story: From Winking Headlights to Power
When I was a kid, my uncle bought a 1969 Camaro. I thought those "winking" headlights were the greatest thing ever! Every time I saw him, I'd run to the car. "Turn on the lights!" I'd yell. "Now turn them off!" Watching the headlight door open and close was great entertainment for a kid.

As I got older, I realized the Camaro packed plenty of powerful entertainment for the driver as well. Now I'm reliving it all with the newly minted The Complete Book of Camaro by Motorbooks. It's a Camaro book like no other. The cover even has a headlight door that opens and closes, just like my uncle's car.
The Complete Book of Camaro
The Complete Book of Camaro covers the entire production history of Chevrolet's iconic pony car, from the original concept car, code-named Panther, to the latest and greatest fifth-generation sensation. The book showcases in photos, text, and technical specifications every model since 1967. If Chevrolet built it, it is here.

This lavishly illustrated book details the original models developed to fight the Mustang in the pony car wars of the late 1960s; the second-generation cars that became icons of American automotive styling in the 1970s; the third-gen cars that helped to lead the muscle car renaissance of the 1980s; the refined fourth-generation models that continued to demonstrate GM's engineering prowess through the 1990s; and finally, the blockbuster new fifth-generation Camaro that has taken the world by storm. In addition to the production vehicles, prototypes, show cars, anniversary editions, and pace cars are all covered. With extensive details, specifications, hundreds of photographs, and a trick book cover featuring an RS-model headlight door that slides open when the book is opened, The Complete Book of Camaro is the ultimate resource on Chevrolet's legendary pony
