| Fix It! How to Repair Automotive Dents, Scratches, Tears and Stains is a complete guide for any car or truck owners who want their ride to look, feel, and smell like it did the day they bought it. Years of commuting to work and family vacations will take their toll on a car. Coffee spills, paint scratches and fades, hoods and fenders acquire dents and rust, and smells linger in the upholstery and ventilation. It all adds up to a car that's not as fun to drive as it used to be. It may be even embarrassing. Whether you're breathing new life into your reliable ride or getting it ready to sell, you can solve these problems with a few basic tools and products, and the right instruction on how to use them. This book provides step-by-step projects anyone at any skill level can accomplish to help keep a car looking its best. From buffing a scratch to popping a dent, doing it yourself has never been easier! | Mechanical Fixes are Easy, Too
| How to Make Your Car Last Forever will guide you through the minefield of preventative maintenance, repair, extended warranties, and magic elixirs that claim to cure everything from oil consumption to male-pattern baldness! Author Tom Torbjornsen is a car repair expert and host of satellite radio show America's Car Show with Tom Torbjornsen. He has seen it all in his 40 years in the automobile industry. Let him show you how to extend the life of your car indefinitely as he explains the what, when, and why of automotive maintenance and repair in easy-to-understand terms. Simple projects supplement the learning with step-by-step instructions that will save you time and money. While you may not want your car to last forever, Torbjornsen's advice will help you preserve it indefinitely while maximizing resale value. |
| The Bible for Welders
| Welding is a skill that any do-it-yourself enthusiast needs in his arsenal. It's only when you can join metal that you can properly repair and create. This book is the perfect introduction for neophytes and an excellent refresher for veteran welders, a work so comprehensive and so complete that most readers won't need any further instruction.
How to Weld starts with a brief history of welding, an overview of the different types of welding, and a thorough discussion of safety practices. Longtime welding instructor Todd Bridigum describes various tools and types of metals, as well as techniques and types of joints. Bridigum discusses gas, stick, wire-feed (MIG and TIG), even brazing, completing each section with a series of exercises that fully illustrate the skills he has covered. |
Never Be Late for School Again
| There were plenty of modified cars, trucks and motorcycles at this year's Wheels & Wings show, but none of them quite matched the panache of this school bus that was clocked doing up to 367 mph in Lincoln, Nebraska, recently.
Paul Stender custom built the jet-engine-powered dragster using an engine from a McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom fighter jet. The 42,000 hp engine not only propels the bus to high speeds, it belches flames up to 80 feet and billowing clouds of smoke from its tailpipe. The bus isn't exactly fuel efficient. It gobbles 150 gallons of fuel over a quarter-mile run. Stender is a sprint car racer and mechanic who built and raced his first jet-powered cars in 1995.
