| | MOTORBOOKS BLOG | John Lamm, one of the authors of 365 Sports Cars You Must Drive, tells us, among other things, why this little sports car is called an "8V" instead of a "V-8." Famed for its small, economical cars, Fiat opted in 1952 to launch a V-8-powered automobile. While V-8 means big displacement to an American, Fiat did this one at just 2.0 liters to compete in races for cars of that size. To keep the engine narrow, they created an unusual V-8 with 70 degrees between cylinder banks. Well-known engineer Dante Giacosa directed the car's development, dipping into Fiat's extensive parts bin for such components as the suspensions. |
| | In recent years, the quest to find and restore forgotten automotive gems has generated a cult-like following - a very large cult-like following. So large, in fact, that the subject of automotive archaeology has inspired an entire genre of television programs, including Counting Cars, Desert Car Kings, Chasing Classic Cars, One of a Kind,What's My Car Worth?, and others. Author Tom Cotter is at the forefront of this movement with his In the Barn series, a line of books that inspired many of the above-mentioned television programs. 50 Shades of Rust collects 90-plus of the all-time best barn-find stories. Each story is accompanied by photographs from the scenes of the finds, creating a heavily illustrated book unlike any barn-find book yet published.Get this new book just arrived in our warehouse, and we're offering a 20% discount, so the hardcover volume is just $24 at Motorbooks.com.
