The Hot Rodder Gene

While visiting my in-laws recently in small-town America, the local car club was hosting its annual car show in the courthouse square. My 14-year-old nephew, Zachary, was also spending a portion of his summer vacation with his grandparents. Knowing that there was a car show in town, I suggested that we guys drive into town and see what there was to see.

As expected, Zachary-and any other teenage boy with thoughts of a driver's license in the foreseeable future-gravitated toward the Mustangs and Camaros. After all, we parents can buy those types of cars at the local dealer, with easy financing options.

Yet, after checking out the late model vehicles in attendance, Zachary did find some interesting old cars to take photos of with his cell phone.

Dear ASD,

Finding long lost automotive or motorcycle treasure was a significant undertaking before the advent of the Internet. Now, you can stumble upon a gem simply by jumping onto eBay.

Have you ever seen something historically significant for sale on eBay? Read the incredible story of 3 Vincent motorcycles that were crated in a warehouse in Saigon for decades only to be discovered and put on ebay! Log on today at BarnFinds.com to read the account, originally told in Tom Cotter's bookThe Vincent in the Barn.

If you have a barn find story that would make fellow car and motorcycle lovers green with envy, submit it to BarnFinds.com and it could appear in Tom Cotter's next barn find book!
Art of the Classic Car
There's nothing better than taking a barn find and turning it into a head-turning show car. Our new Art of the Classic Car title, displays some of the world's most beautiful and pristine prewar classics. The book debuts August 16.

Featured are the automobiles that populate the fairways and manicured lawns of the world's greatest car shows in alluring locales like Pebble Beach, California, and Amelia Island, Florida. These are the cars that bring a hush to the hall when they roll across the blocks at auctions around the world. These are the cars from history's premiere automakers: hallowed names like Packard, Duesenberg, Stutz, Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz, Cord, and others-six-figure and million-dollar machines that thrill Barrett-Jackson audiences and drive bidders to frenzy.

Art of the Classic Car features the stunning studio photography of Peter Harholdt (Art of the Hot Rod, Art of the Muscle Car), lavished on the most significant automobiles from the classic era: the 1910s to early 1940s. Every page contains framable-quality portraits of some of the most important cars ever made, with each car accompanied by a short essay from automotive expert Peter Bodensteiner that places the model contextually within automotive history. Complete with period ads and promotional art, this bookis the most beautiful pictorial history of classic cars ever produced.
