| | | | | | | MOTORBOOKS BLOG | Carroll Shelby holds down the front end of a Shelby Terlingua, a potent version of the V-6-powered Mustang. The engineers at Shelby Automobiles used their years of experience in suspension, brake, and exhaust systems to transform the commuter version of a Mustang into a track-ready stormer able to embarrass far more powerful vehicles. With its lightweight engine and race-bred enhancements, it was a slot car on a track. Amy Boylan, of Shelby Automobiles, explained the Terlingua to Randy Leffingwell, the author of Shelby Mustang. "The Terlingua was true to the heritage; it's scrappy, it's fast, it handles like a dream, and with its power to weight ratio, it's a rocket. It's probably more Shelby than anything else we've built. Every aspect of that car, down to the meatballs on the doors, the dual stripes on the fender, speaks about Shelby's past. Back then, it was sort of Carroll's secret weapon. He built it to make fun, it was fast, and it won races." | |
