Dear ASD,
As we celebrate this Labor Day weekend, American automakers continue to regain their share of the worldwide auto market. Ford in particular has seen a turnaround, recently posting a profit for the ninth consecutive quarter. From the sporty, muscular Mustang to the fuel-efficient Fusion Hybrid, Ford is once again making the cars and trucks that America wants.

See for yourself whether Ford has a better idea by exploring our library of Ford-related titles.

Not a Ford driver? Don't worry. Over the next several weeks we'll feature books about many of the most popular automakers across the planet. In the meantime, drive on over to Motorbooks and search for books about your favorite car or truck today.
The Boss is Back!
Mustang Boss 301: From Racing Legend to Modern Muscle Car
Of the legendary names in the history of the Ford Mustang, one stands apart: BOSS. Originally created to make the new Boss 302 engine and option package eligible for SCCA Trans-Am racing, the Mustang Boss 302 debuted for the 1969 model year and was built in limited numbers for the street through 1970. Designed by the legendary Larry Shinoda, the Boss cars were easily distinguished from their less potent stablemates by their race-bred powerplant, standard front spoiler, and bold graphics.

For the 2012 model year, Ford has at long last revived the most revered of all Mustang models: BOSS. With a new racing counterpart and a modern street version that delivers more than 440 horsepower, the Boss is truly back!

To mark this historic occasion, Mustang historian Donald Farr has written a complete history of the Boss 302, from its late 1960s origins in Ford's boardrooms, through its Trans-Am successes and untimely demise in 1970 up to the conception and development of the spectacular new 2012 Mustang Boss 302. Packed with brilliant photography and first-hand accounts from the people who created the original Boss as well as the team that resurrected Ford's most iconic Mustang, Mustang Boss 302 is the story every Mustang enthusiast has been waiting to read!
The Last of a Generation Lives On
'40 Ford
The 1940 Ford represents the last of a generation of fairly compact, speedy cars that started with the 1934 Ford. Under the hood was the highly successful flathead V-8 engine that came in an 85 horsepower version, the V-8-85, or the small 60 horsepower "economy" size, called the V-8-60. The cars were simply and appropriately known as the V-8s and came in a variety of body styles from two-door coupes and sedans to the four-door sedan or the "woody" station wagon.

Notable for its streamlined style and deco details, the '40 Ford has gained in popularity among today's classic car nostalgists and hot rodders who remember the models as monsters of the drag strip and as affordable first cars or hot rod platforms of their youth.

In this illustrated history of the '40 Ford, auto historian Joe Cabadas delves into the archive of The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, to offer a complete history of the 1940 Ford: the design and production process that led to the car; the various body styles; motorsports (both circle-track and drag racing); and hot rodding. Sidebars feature prominent, key figures within Ford, the cars in popular culture, significant contemporary automobiles from competitors, and more. Two hundred rare photographs and illustrations from the collections of The Henry Ford and from photographers around the country marvelously illustrate the iconic automobile.
