40 Years of Porch Sitting

Even though summer has only just begun, we wanted to make sure you had your calendars marked for the celebration of the century if you're keen on a 2-wheeled ride. The definitive pilgrimage to the motorcycle mecca of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is at the end of the summer: Harley-Davidson is celebrating their 110th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of H.O.G. It's all happening from August 29 - September 1 at the Summerfest grounds and will include performances by Aerosmith, Toby Keith, Kid Rock, and many others. Harley-Davidson has been as essential to our nation's culture as apple pie and baseball, and we at Motorbooks decided to celebrate by digging for our favorite Harley barn find story.

Dear ASD,

Imagine finding a Corvette hiding in a field. Then imagine that you discover the VIN # is VE55S001001. Why is it significant? Head over to Barnfinds.com today to read the story of this incredible barn find, as originally told in Tom Cotter's book The Hemi in the Barn.

If you have a barn find story that would make fellow car lovers green with envy, submit it to BarnFinds.com and your story could appear in Tom Cotter's next barn find book!
The Vincent in the Barn
Cotter's most recent book, The Vincent in the Barn, is hitting bookstores in paperback this week.

As he loves to do, Cotter has scoured the motorcycle collector ranks to find the best "barn find" tales. From well-known collectors like Dale Walksler (Wheels Through Time Museum) and Tonight Show
host Jay Leno, to motorjournalist Ken Gross, to lucky bike freaks you've never heard of but whose finds you will envy; the book offers 40 stories of motorcycle-hunting dreams come true. From Ducatis in basements to Vincents piled in sheds, Harleys in barns to Brit bikes moldering behind urban garages, these are the stories that fuel every motorcyclist's moto-fantasies. Cycle World magazine tells readers, "You never know what you might find in a barn, back of a garage or under a dusty tarp. . .Tom Cotter continues his entertaining search for motorized treasure." Motorcycle Classics magazine calls it ". . .a thoroughly fun romp through a corner of the hobby most of us wish we inhabited - and swear we someday will."
