Motorcycle collecting isn't for the faint of heart. Sometimes it takes a little horse trading, so to speak, to get people to part with machines they've kept for years. In The Vincent in the Barn, Tom Cotter shares this story of a rare Harley that took a little more than just money to collect.

"The Harley-Davidson Company manufactured very limited numbers of these specialty machines, which were built specifically for either racing on board tracks or racing on the dirt," said Walksler. "The board-track racers were originally built to race on automotive board tracks and were basically the side show to the car racing."

Walksler seeks out and acquires these rare factory racers, which is how he came to own number 21 SCA 500, the very first of the series.

"The bike was well preserved," said Walksler, "but when I was getting ready to make an offer, the man said, 'Well, I'll let you know.'

"So I said, 'Well, you know, we're here and the truck is outside and I've got this money and a letter from you in the truck that you'd like to sell this to me.' So we agreed to a price, which was fair, but then he said that he has always wanted a Yamaha four-wheeler."
